Benrinnes distillery lies in the shadows of the eponymous mountain close by the mighty river Spey. An erlier distillery bearing the name was washed away by floods in 1829. The current distillery sits on safer ground and for a time employed an unusual part-triple distillation technique.
Benrinnes is a steely malt which provides the backbone to some famous blends. The nose is firm and malty with an elegant and playful fruitiness. The palate is round and succulent with a distinct smoky element, cut by some praline and banana. This dram has an old fashioned feel but, thankfully it is for today´s enjoyment.
